Armen Sargsyan Elected New President of Armenia

Following the result of the vote held March 2nd, in the National Assembly of Armenia, the only candidate, Armen Sargsyan nominated by the ruling coalition, was elected the new President of the country. For the candidacy of Sargsyan, 90 MPs of the Armenian Parliament voted for, and 10 against.

Only the “Elk” Block was against it.

Recall that, according to the new Constitution, adopted in 2015, from April this year, Armenia will completely pass to the parliamentary form of government.

Sargsyan was Prime Minister and resigned a few years ago. He was named Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
